In this post, I’m sharing what it’s been like to use the BALMUDA Rain after replacing my humidifier, along with my thoughts on its design. I’ve put together my firsthand impressions of the top-fill setup, the app controls, and how it looks in my space.
While I was looking for a new humidifier, the top-fill design and vase-like appearance caught my eye, so I chose the evaporative BALMUDA Rain. Once I started using it, those were also the two things that stood out to me most: the way it’s refilled and the way it looks.

Refilling It from the Top Is Much Easier Than I Expected
The first thing I found convenient was being able to pour water straight in from the top. I’d always pictured refilling a humidifier as removing the tank and carrying it to the sink, so being able to refill this one without moving the unit was much less of a hassle than I expected. Rain has a tankless design, and I pour water directly into the fill bowl at the top. The water level is displayed in five increments, with full being about 4 L, so I find it easy to keep track of how much I’m adding as I pour.
I Can Control the Fan Speed with the App
I can control it through the dedicated BALMUDA Connect app, and I use the app to turn the fan speed up or down. According to the official specifications, it supports turning the power on and off, changing the target humidity, adjusting the fan speed, and switching operating modes. Having those settings at my fingertips has been genuinely convenient.
A Vase-Like Design That Doesn’t Look Like a Humidifier
At first glance, it doesn’t really look like a humidifier or air purifier; to me, it looks more like a ceramic vase. BALMUDA says its curved design was inspired by flower vases and jars. The surface is also finished to give it the soft sheen of ceramic, so it doesn’t have much of the hard-edged feel of a typical appliance. Neither the shape nor the texture feels too assertive, and it blended right in with the decor where I placed it.
I also like that its 4.0 L capacity lets me add plenty of water at once. During hot summers, I tend to blast the AC and keep the room really cold, so the dry air had been bothering me. When I left the AC running while I slept, I sometimes woke up with a sore throat the next morning, but in my case, using Rain at the same time took care of that. Using it made me realize that a humidifier can come in handy even in summer.
Summary
For me, Rain’s biggest draw is how easy it is to refill: I can leave the unit where it is and simply pour water straight in from the top. I also like how it looks like a ceramic vase, blending into my decor without looking overtly like a humidifier. It’s also helped with dryness from the AC in summer, and I’m glad I chose it for both its looks and ease of use.
