How an Automatic Feeder Kept Me from Forgetting to Feed My Cat— Letting It Handle Meals at Set Times on Weekdays When I Work Late

In this article, I’m writing about how I used to forget my cat’s meals and then started using an automatic feeder that I can manage through the PetSnowy app. I’ll take an honest look back at how my daily feeding routine changed once I was able to have food dispensed at set times and stop leaving food out.

Before this, I intended to feed my cat at set times, but sometimes it would slip my mind. If I put out a large amount in advance so I wouldn’t forget, I would start worrying about the food being exposed to air for hours and oxidizing. I think oxidized food may be hard on my cat’s stomach. I wanted to avoid missed feedings, but I didn’t want to leave food sitting out, either.

It started when I bought PetSnowy’s automatic litter box (Why I Can’t Live Without My Cat’s Automatic Litter Box). I learned that the same company also made an automatic feeder I could manage through its app, and I ended up buying it along with a water fountain (my article about the water fountain). Honestly, I bought them pretty much on impulse.

Feeding My Cat at Set Times for Me

Once I started managing the feeding schedule through the dedicated app, I stopped forgetting to feed my cat. It helps most on weekdays when work takes me away from home. Even on days when overtime means I’ll be home late, it dispenses food for me at the time I set. The fact that my cat’s meals no longer depend on when I get home has been a pretty big change for me. It simply takes care of this everyday task without fuss, and I’ve really come to rely on it.

According to the manufacturer’s product page, the dedicated app lets me set the number of feedings per day and the amount dispensed each time, then create a schedule. Food can also be dispensed manually, and the manufacturer says the unit comes with a small remote control that attaches magnetically to it and can be used without a smartphone.

I Stopped Leaving Food Out

Since I started using the automatic feeder, I’ve been able to stop putting out a large amount of food ahead of time just so I wouldn’t forget. Another plus is that I don’t have to worry as much about food sitting exposed to air for a long time before my cat eats it. According to the manufacturer, it has a sealed design that limits contact with outside air from the tank’s inlet to the outlet, and there’s also a desiccant box inside the tank. Since I think oxidized food may be hard on my cat’s stomach, the focus on keeping the food sealed gives me some peace of mind.

On the other hand, app control requires a smartphone and Wi-Fi on the 2.4 GHz band, so the connection requirements are a little inconvenient. Also, the desiccant is a consumable that needs replacing, and to make use of the dual-power setup, I need to keep batteries in the unit as well.

In Summary

In my case, forgetting to feed my cat at set times and leaving food out so I wouldn’t forget were both resolved by having the feeder dispense food on schedule. I can leave it in charge even on days when work keeps me from getting home until late, and managing weekday meals has become much easier. Since I chose PetSnowy for my automatic litter box, water fountain, and feeder, it’s also a small but welcome convenience that I only need one app to manage everything.
