In this article, I’m sharing how I started using a water fountain I can manage through the PetSnowy app after struggling to remember to change the water. It keeps water available for my cat even on weekdays when overtime keeps me away from home longer, and the app now lets me know when a refill or filter replacement is coming up. Here’s my honest account of how those changes have eased my day-to-day worries.

When I bought PetSnowy’s automatic litter box, I discovered that the same company also offered a water fountain I could manage through its app. I wrote about the automatic litter box in How My Cat’s Automatic Litter Box Became Indispensable. I figured I might as well manage them in the same app, and honestly, I got swept up in that idea and ended up buying the fountain at the same time. I bought the automatic feeder in much the same way, and I’ve gone into more detail in my automatic feeder article.

Before that, even when I planned to change the water in the bowl on a regular schedule, I’d sometimes simply forget. If I put out a lot of water from the start so forgetting wouldn’t be a problem, the bowl would develop mineral buildup instead. Simply leaving out extra wasn’t really a solution either, and this routine kept nagging at me.

It Keeps Water Ready for My Cat Even When I Work Late

The fountain is most useful to me on weekdays when I have to be out of the house for work, especially on days when overtime gets me home late. Back when I left extra water in a bowl before heading out, I worried about it sitting there as-is until I got home, but now the fountain takes over for me, keeping water ready at set times and in a consistent condition. It’s a real relief not to have to keep thinking about the water on top of wondering what time I’ll make it home.

According to the product page, this fountain circulates the water and runs it through a multilayer filter as it flows. It says the fountain can be switched between “Smart Mode,” which detects when a cat approaches and starts the water flowing, and a mode that keeps the water flowing continuously.

The App Tells Me When It’s “Almost Time”

The biggest help for me is being able to check the app to see when the filter needs replacing and when the fountain needs refilling. I no longer have to rely on my memory alone and wonder whether it’s “almost time”; now I can see when each one is due. Being able to cut down on absentminded oversights when it comes to the water makes me feel like I’m putting less of a burden on my cat too. Instead of leaving extra water in a bowl while worrying about mineral buildup like I used to, I can just add as much as needed when it’s needed, which has been much easier for me.

According to the manufacturer, a weight sensor records my cat’s water intake, and I can check that data in the app too. I don’t pore over the numbers in detail; I mainly rely on the app’s notifications so I don’t miss when it’s time to refill the water or replace the filter.

Of course, it doesn’t eliminate the work entirely. The filter is a consumable, so I have to keep buying replacements, and even though the manufacturer says the entire pump can be removed and washed, I still have to do the actual washing. Because it’s managed through an app, I also need Wi-Fi and a smartphone.

Summary

For someone like me, who used to forget to change the water or end up with mineral buildup whenever I left out extra so forgetting wouldn’t be a problem, this fountain has been a really good fit. I can rely on it for my cat’s water while I’m away on weekdays, and now that the app tells me when a refill or filter replacement is coming up, managing my cat’s water has gotten much easier. Choosing PetSnowy to match my automatic litter box also means I only need one app to manage everything, which is a small but welcome convenience.
